Best Podcasts for New Moms- My Top 15 Recommendations

by | Dec 31, 2022 | Sleep Challenges, Uncategorized | 0 comments

If you’re looking for the best podcasts for new moms, I’ve got you covered.

You might be looking for something light-hearted and funny. Alternatively, you might want a podcast that’s more serious that delves into the everyday challenges of motherhood. These podcasts offer something for every new mom.

I will admit that I’ve never been a big reader, despite being pretty curious and always wanting to learn. This is probably because I’ve always been more of an auditory learner. On top of that, books are not always so convenient to carry around with you, especially as a young mom.

For this reason, I HAD to start my own podcast for my followers called the My Sleeping Baby podcast. Not surprisingly, I naturally became a regular listener of podcasts over time. You just can’t beat the convenience of listening to a podcast ANYWHERE!

With this in mind, here are my top recommendations for the best parenting podcasts for new moms:

Pregnancy Podcasts

Pregnancy Podcast

Now THIS is a podcast I wish was around when I was pregnant with my first back in 2011.  It’s an especially solid resource for expecting moms and their partners that provides research-based information and insights to help empower them through the journey of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.  Vanessa Merten, the host of the podcast, takes you through the different options you have so that you can make the decision that works best for YOU.  She specifically covers topics such as choosing your healthcare provider, what to pack in your birth bag, navigating the different stages of labor, and what to expect in that early postpartum period.

Episode length- 30-40 minutes

Yoga| Birth | Babies

In this podcast, Deb Flashenberg explores some of the most popular topics around pregnancy, labor, birth, and yoga.  She covers a diverse range of topics in a way that’s informative, warm, and supportive.  The birth stories she features provide her pregnant listeners with hope and inspiration.  As a result, this podcast is for you if you are looking to learn more and feel empowered and prepared for what’s to come.

Deb is the founder and director of the Prenatal Yoga Center in NYC, a labor support doula, Lamaze childbirth educator, prenatal yoga teacher, and mom of 2.

Expert Parenting Advice and How-Tos

The Good Inside with Dr. Becky

What can I say, I’m obsessed with this podcast.  Dr. Becky, a brilliant clinical psychologist and parenting expert, uses her weekly podcast to tackle tough parenting questions. Her approach involves empowering parents while nurturing a stronger and healthier parent-child connection.  Additionally, her strategies and scripts for difficult parenting situations are GOLD.  The best part of her podcast is how she always uses real life examples to teach her points. And the episodes are short, which perfect for busy families.

Dr. Becky has basically changed my life as a parent. For this reason, I know I have a better relationship with my kids because of her.

While parenting can feel exhausting and stressful at times, Aliza brings on some of the best parenting experts out there. She specifically gives you access to amazing resources at your fingertips, which makes the journey feel a LOT less overwhelming.  As a result, if your goal is to learn how to raise good, kind-hearted humans, this podcast is for you.

Oh Crap Parenting

If you have a toddler or preschooler, this podcast is for you. Jaime Glowacki does a great job covering every challenge that comes up with raising a toddler. She’s also practical and refreshingly real!  I can’t tell you how many “ah ha!” moments I’ve had about my own preschooler while listen to her.

Some of my favorite episodes have been about teaching our little ones how to emotionally regulate, navigating work-life balance for moms, encouraging independence for our toddlers, how to deal with mom shaming, and how to address limits around screen time for our little ones.

I can’t remember how I discovered this podcast, but I’m definitely a fan.  Dr. Mona Amin, a pediatrician and mom herself, uses this platform to provide parenting advice and insights from a medical perspective. She wants you to understand the WHY behind the problem and solution for your child.  For this reason, her parenting tips are practical, useful, and simplified despite using tons of science to back them up (always a good thing!)

Securely Attached

This is a fantastic parenting podcast that dives into specific topics through a lens that’s psychologically informed and based on the fundamentals of secure attachment.  Dr. Sarah Bren, a clinical psychologist and the host of this podcast, covers a whole slew of parenting topics. More specifically, these include how to navigate through the struggles of infertility, implementing mindfulness in our lives, introducing a new baby sibling to a child, navigating parental burnout, and helping parents with preschool drop-off and separation anxiety.

The term “attachment” is a popular buzzword thrown around quite a bit. As a result, it’s incredibly refreshing to listen to a science-based podcast talk about healthy attachment in a way that’s honest.

The Mom Room

I first discovered Renee Reina on Instagram back in 2020 and started listening to her podcast shortly afterwards. Her personality is pure awesomeness and she’s equally entertaining to listen to.  This is because she asks tough questions, challenges current parenting norms, and says what many of us are thinking but are too afraid to say out loud.  She also happens to have a PhD in psychology, in addition to being a mom herself.  She talks about motherhood in a relatable and authentic way that might make you laugh and cry at the same time.  If you want some validation, this podcast is SO refreshing to listen to!

Because this is something I’ve always struggled with, I had to give this podcast a listen. And after listening to a few episodes, I got some AMAZING tricks to better organize certain aspects of my life. I also reclaimed some time in my week that I was wasting, unknowingly.

If your goal is to feel confident while you teach your little ones how to eat solid, Edwana’s got you covered.  I also love how short these episodes are- they’re perfect for busy families who don’t have more than 15 minutes at a time.  Lastly, everything she teaches is research-based, step-by-step, and practical.  I’m a fan!
